Comparing two School Magazines

Comparison of two school magazines

They both have eye catching headlines as well as a good use of vibrant colours used to draw the reader in. They both look very professional and show all of the different subjects discussed in the article as to bring awareness to the reader as to what they will be reading if they pick up the magazine again in bright colours making the magazine seem fun and interesting. The subheadings like "First-Day Jitters" suggest the magazine is aimed at Students as they would be experiencing "First-Day Jitters" the main cover picture suggests this as well as it shows a happy student ready for their first day of school. The magazine is also aimed at Parents as on the cover it uses rhetorical questions asking them whether they are smarter than a child this is effective because the parents will immediately want to know if the are as it wold be embarrassing if they weren't as smart as a child. Neither of the magazines have barcodes suggesting they are free meaning people are more likely to pick them up. The second magazine is designed to look like a school desk due to the scribbles of writing and coffee rings making the magazine seem more friendly and laid back making the readers seem more likely to pick it up and read it. The second magazine uses the colour turquoise to represent focus and academics which is appropriate as the schools ethos should be about focus and academics. I will use this technique in my magazine to make it more professional.

They both lack colour though there is too much white which makes them seem very plain and unfinished in my magazine I will keep the original background of the photo I take. Both magazines don't have page references which is certainly something I will include on my front cover as they speed up the process of finding pages making the reader more likely to carry on reading the magazine instead of searching throughout the magazine trying to find the article they want to read and giving up, also neither magazines have taglines or a phrase to go with the magazine name I will include one of those as I think they can help tell people what the magazine is about making it more likely to be read. The two magazines do not have smaller images to accompany the feature stories these are helpful as they can give a visual aid as to what the article is about this means that people will be more inclined to want to read the article as they will know more about the article. The second magazine only has one feature stories if you want people to read your magazine I would put more on the front cover as it makes people interested as to what is inside causing them to want to read it. But I will not put too much of each as I don't want to clog up the front page and ruin the main cover photo
